About Joseph F. Buell, MD
Dr Joseph Buell is a senior hepatobiliary surgeon and surgical oncologist for the HPB and Complex GI Surgical Fellowships for the Methodist Health System. He trained at the University of Maryland, and finished two fellowships, one in Surgical Oncology at the National Institutes of Health and then one in Multiorgan Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University of Chicago. During his career, Dr. Buell has been the Division Chief and Director of several University Transplant Programs with active interests in basic science and translational research in biomedical innovations funded by multiple societies and the federal government. He is recognized as a leader in the field of minimally invasive liver surgery, robotics and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. During his career he has published over 230 manuscripts and 19 book chapters. His practice is focused on surgery of the liver, pancreas, biliary ducts, complex abdominal wall and gastrointestinal tract problems. He specializes in the minimally invasive and robotic approaches to benign and malignant tumors of the liver.
