Treatment for shoulder pain

When you suffer from shoulder pain and conservative treatments like physical therapy and medication have failed to work, it’s time to start considering surgery. As intimidating as surgery may seem, there is more to these treatments that you may realize. Medical advancements have allowed many operations to be performed through minimally invasive methods. A minimally invasive procedure is one where only small incisions are needed to perform the operation. This leads to faster healing, reduced chance of infection, and less scarring.

At Methodist Orthopaedic Surgical Associates, we provide a wide variety of surgical procedures for the shoulders, including minimally invasive shoulder arthroscopy.

Our surgeons are experienced in the following shoulder procedures:

  • Shoulder Arthroscopy
  • Total Shoulder Replacement
  • Reverse Total Shoulder

We work closely with patients and their medical providers to determine the best course of treatment in every case.

Common Shoulder Problems

Many shoulder pains will go away on their own or can be managed with physical therapy and other conservative treatments. However, there are some conditions that frequently require surgery to repair.

Common shoulder conditions we treat include:

  • Rotator Cuff Tear – A tear in the tendons that connect the shoulder bones to muscle. This will limit your range of motion and cause weakness in the arm.
  • Shoulder Impingement – Also known as swimmer’s shoulder, tennis shoulder, or rotator cuff tendinitis. This condition is usually caused by an accident or injury to the shoulder and is a common problem for athletes.
  • Frozen Shoulder – This condition is caused by inflammation in the ligaments that hold the shoulder together. This problem usually gets worse over time and is more women in women who are over 40.
  • Shoulder Instability – This is a chronic condition that makes it easier for the shoulder to become dislocated. Shoulder instability usually occurs after an injury that weakens the shoulder joint.

At Methodist Orthopaedic Surgical Associates we can help you with these and other shoulder problems.
